Sapa Relax · Location & getting there

Where Sapa Relax Hotel & Spa Is, and How Far Everything Is on Foot

Sapa Relax Hotel & Spa stands at 19A Dong Loi Street in central Sa Pa, four minutes on foot from Sun Plaza and five from the Stone Church, and 33.6 km by road from Lao Cai railway station. The one thing to know before you arrive is the slope: the hotel sits below the main square, so every walk into the centre starts uphill and every walk home ends downhill, and guests report that cars cannot always pull up at the entrance.

Each distance follows real streets and footpaths from the hotel’s map pin. Walking times are at an even pace on the flat, so add a few minutes for the climb towards the square.

33.6 km by road · 45–60 min

From Lao Cai station, after the overnight train

Sleeper trains from Hanoi take about eight hours and reach Lao Cai between roughly 05:20 and 06:30 on the October 2026 timetable; soft-sleeper berths cost VND 540,000–790,000 one way in October 2026. Outside the station, shared minivans up the mountain charge about VND 40,000–60,000 per person and a taxi or pre-booked car VND 400,000–550,000 (January 2026). Minivans usually stop near the lake or the church, five to ten minutes on foot from Dong Loi Street.

Take the minivan if you travel light and want the cheapest ride. Book a car if you have children or big cases — the hotel publishes no Lao Cai transfer price, so ask the hotel when you book.

Hanoi 5½–7 h · Noi Bai 291 km

From Hanoi by limousine van, sleeper bus or the hotel car

Limousine vans cost about VND 320,000–450,000 and take five and a half to six hours; sleeper buses run about VND 270,000–370,000, leave Hanoi between 21:30 and 22:30 and pull in around 04:30–05:00 (October 2026). Most vans finish at Sa Pa bus station on Dien Bien Phu Street, 1.5 km from the hotel, so ask your operator whether it drops in the centre instead. The hotel lists its own Noi Bai airport car at VND 350,000 per person each way, requested 24 hours ahead.

Take the sleeper bus if you want a full first day — dawn arrivals describe leaving bags and resting in the lobby, though a room before 14:00 depends on what is free. Take the hotel car if you land at Noi Bai and want one vehicle all the way.

Walk four minutes up to Sun Plaza, where the mountain train runs just under 2 km to the cable car station in about six minutes. In January 2026 a return train ticket was VND 200,000 and the return cable car VND 850,000 for adults, VND 550,000 for children between 1 and 1.4 m. Last boarding uphill is 14:30 from Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, 15:30 on Friday and Saturday (August 2026 timetable).

Ride the train if you want the valley views on the way up. Take a taxi if you would rather skip the train fare — the station is 2.9 km away by road.

Moving around Sa Pa from Dong Loi Street

01

Climb out, stroll home

Sun Plaza, the church and the square all sit above the hotel. Give yourself a couple of spare minutes for the climb on the way out; the walk back down Dong Loi Street is the easy half.

02

Ask about fog before Fansipan

Misty mornings are normal in winter and through February, and the Muong Hoa train can pause in dense fog. Ask at the front desk whether the train and cable car are running before you buy tickets.

03

Plan on taxis, not Grab

Ride-hailing in Sa Pa was still very patchy in May 2026. Keep a local taxi number such as Mai Linh, or have reception call one, and check the meter is running.

Honest note

Central does not mean flat here. Every street out of the hotel climbs, cars cannot always reach the entrance, and the bus station is 1.5 km away, so anyone with heavy luggage or limited mobility should budget for a taxi at both ends of the trip.

Getting around from Sapa Relax: the detailed questions

Why does my map app spell the hotel’s street “Đồng Lợi” instead of Dong Loi?

It is the same short street. The hotel and Google write it Đông Lợi, while OpenStreetMap labels it Phố Đồng Lợi. Older listings also carry pre-2025 ward names and the old postcode 661300; since July 2025 the address is simply Sa Pa ward, Lao Cai province. Searching the hotel name, or “19A Dong Loi Sa Pa”, finds the right building.

Which landmark should I give a driver to find Sapa Relax?

Sun Plaza, the large building that houses the Muong Hoa train station, 270 m from the hotel on foot. The Stone Church is 325 m away. Say “19A Dong Loi, near Sun Plaza” and show the map pin if you can. Guests report that cars cannot always stop right outside, so expect to wheel your bags for the last few metres.

How long does the Muong Hoa train take from near Sapa Relax, and what does it cost?

About six minutes. The track runs just under 2 km from the Sun Plaza station to Muong Hoa station beside the Fansipan cable car, and trains leave every 10–15 minutes through the day. A return ticket was VND 200,000 per person in January 2026, with children under 1 m free. Services can pause in dense fog, so check before you buy combined tickets.

What time is the last cable car up Fansipan, and when should I leave the hotel?

The August 2026 timetable has first cars at 08:00 on weekdays and 07:30 at weekends, with last boarding uphill at 14:30 Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and 15:30 on Friday and Saturday. From Sapa Relax it is four minutes to Sun Plaza and six on the train. Local guides advise reaching the station before 09:00, so leaving around 08:30 works well.

How much do taxis cost around Sa Pa from the hotel?

Metered taxis charge roughly VND 15,000 per km. Short hops in town run about VND 20,000–50,000 and a ride to the Fansipan cable car station about VND 50,000–80,000 (June 2025 figures). Grab coverage in Sa Pa is very limited, so ask the front desk to call Mai Linh or another local firm and make sure the meter is on.

Can I walk from Sapa Relax to Cat Cat village and back?

Yes, but the two directions feel very different. The ticket gate is about 1.2 km away, roughly 15 minutes downhill along Fansipan and Violet streets, and the village path keeps dropping towards the waterfall. Coming back is a long climb, so many walkers take a taxi up. Entry was VND 150,000 for adults in October 2026, with the gate open 07:00–18:00.

Is it worth walking from Sa Pa bus station to the hotel with a suitcase?

Usually not. We measured the bus station area on Dien Bien Phu Street at about 1.5 km from Sapa Relax on foot, around 20 minutes on hilly streets and partly along the main road. A taxi covers the 1.6 km road route in a few minutes for a short-hop fare. With just a day pack, the walk is fine in daylight.

Which evenings is the Sa Pa night market open?

Local guides list it for Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from late afternoon until about 22:00 (16:00–22:00 in an October 2025 guide), though some map listings show it open every evening. It is next to the bus station, about 1.5 km and 20 minutes on foot from Sapa Relax. Walk there and take a taxi back if your legs are tired.
